Paddy Moloney The Chieftains and Special Guest – February 24, 2015

Paddy MoloneyThe Chieftainsand Special GuestReturning to The Grand after 25 years and as six time Grammy winners, The Chieftains are recognized for bringing traditional Irish music to the world’s attention. They have uncovered the wealth of traditional Irish tunes that has accumulated over the centuries, making the music their own with a style that is as exhilarating as it is definitive. The group was formed in 1962 by composer and leader Paddy Moloney with crossover appeal to the pop audience. “Celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, the lads are touring behind their new “Voice of Ages” album; they seem ageless, and so does their Irish music. And if common sense tells you they can’t go on forever, you wouldn’t know it from their electrifying performance.” -Boston Globe

Guy Davis & Eric BibbBlues TroubadoursGuy Davis and Eric Bibb are two blues and gospel experts, each with his own distinctive voice and style. In a soulful, vigorous, and fascinating evening that explores traditional American blues music, they will perform their own sets collaborate on several numbers, and come together for a rousing joint finale. New York-born Davis, the son of actors Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis, has performed on Prairie Home Companies, Mountain Stage, Live from the World Café and Conan O’Brien. A voice like Howlin Wolf dipped in honey,” exclaims The Scotsman Newspaper. Bibb is a child of the 1960s folk scene and grew up within a circle that included Odetta, Pete Seeger, and his god father Paul Roberson. Bibbs rootsy acoustic music “crosses and blends the genres of blues, folk, and gospel.” (Sacramento Press) This engagement of Guy Davis is funded through Mid Atlantic Tours program of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation with support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Delaware Division of the Arts.

Kathy Griffin – February 15, 2015

Kathy GriffinKathy Griffin has made a storied career out of bursting the bubbles of pretentious celebrities, simultaneous embracing and shocking our star-obsessed culture. Griffin has become one of the most familiar faces on TV, thanks to a Bravo reality series, co-hosting CNN’s New Year’s Eve with Anderson Cooper, and outrageous guest appearances on numerous talk shows and specials. One of only three women to ever win a Best 33 Album Grammy, she has also won two Emmys for her Bravo series. Openly risqué and unafraid to offend, Griffin has endeared herself to fans around the world for her willingness to say out loud the frank, catty things that many are thinking, while also championing those marginalized by the dominant culture. Kathy sold out Grand performances in 2005 and 2007, and this return engagement is unique for a 33 star who usually plays large auditoriums and arenas. For adult audiences only
